Empowering Children:
Spotlight on Missy Pipa

Written by Kristen Minichello

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Missy Pipa, a dedicated nurse with the Medina County Health Department. Missy provides compassionate medical assessments for children receiving services through the Child Advocacy Center, ensuring every child receives the care and support they deserve.

We are grateful to have Missy as part of our Multi-Disciplinary team and to the Medina County Health Department for recognizing the importance of this role and supporting her work.

Roles and Responsibilities

How did you learn about The Children’s Center of Medina County? Why did you decide to apply for your position?

I’ve spent the majority of my nursing career providing care to children here in Medina County. When the opportunity was presented to me to work with The Children’s Center of Medina County through a partnership with The Medina County Health Department, I took it without hesitation.

What is your current role? What do you do in that role?

I am a nurse. I have received special training in child abuse allowing me to perform medical exams on children that come to The Children’s Center of Medina County.

What are you most proud of in your work with The Children’s Center?

Empowerment. The child has the right to decline any part of the exam. Often, the medical exam can give a child back the feeling of normalcy and control. They also can get some questions answered that may have been bothering them.

Personal Insights and Reflections

What is the best compliment you have ever received?

Someone once told me that I was the calm during their storm. I like to think that I can be a rock for someone when they need it and their safe landing when their world is upside down.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I have always wanted to be a mom and a nurse!

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy day? What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

I love to unwind with a cup of coffee and a book. My 6-year-old is learning how to read and loves snuggling up to read with me.

What is one song you have completely memorized?

I have a 10-year-old, so obviously every song in K-Pop demon hunters!

Community Engagement and Support

What does the community need to know about The Children’s Center?

The Children’s Center of Medina County is a driving force for child advocacy in our county. They truly put children and their families at the center of their care to ensure every need is met.
