This month, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Renee Hawke, who has served on The Children’s Center Board of Directors since 2020. As Board Treasurer, Renee has been instrumental in guiding our financial sustainability efforts, including establishing an endowment through the Medina County Community Fund. She’s also a vital part of our fundraising events, helping manage the Tally Room to ensure auction bids and paddle raises are counted quickly and accurately.
We are so grateful for Renee’s dedication, expertise, and the positive impact she brings to The Children’s Center every day.
Roles and Responsibilities
How did you learn about The Children’s Center of Medina County? Why did you decide to join the Board of Directors?
A professional colleague was approached by a Board Member who was reaching out for a recommendation for a Treasurer because the current Treasurer’s time with the Board was coming to an end. I had just started working in the Medina community and thought this would be a good opportunity to get to know the community and being a part of an organization that helped children with trauma seemed meant to be.
What is your current role? What do you do in that role?
I am the Treasurer. On a monthly basis, I report the current financial position to the Board, report on the comparison of actual financial results to the budget, review results of the annual audit and 990 tax filing, and provide financial recommendations to the Board
What are you most proud of in your work with The Children’s Center?
Being part of an organization and community that supports children during an unfortunate time when they need help and support the most.
Personal Insights and Reflections
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
The best compliments are when someone says, “What a pleasure it is working with you,” or “You are amazing, and I appreciate everything you do.” Then I know what I do has helped someone.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to work with numbers and be an accountant.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy day? What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
I enjoy watching Hallmark movies, especially at Christmas time.
What is your favorite season?
My favorite season is fall because I am in awe of the leaves on the trees changing colors. It’s a time when people start to think of the holidays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, which provide an opportunity to give back and let those who are important to us know just how much we care about them.
Community Engagement and Support
What does the community need to know about The Children’s Center?
We are so very grateful for the giving from the community. Since a portion of our revenue is from government funding, each year we have to be prepared to operate if that government funding is not approved. If we don’t have the support of the community, we may not be able to operate as we should.
