Guiding with Purpose: Spotlight on Amanda Hansen

This month we are spotlighting the President of our Board of Directors, Amanda Hansen! Amanda is the Senior Director of Pharmacy at the Cleveland Clinic. Her extensive healthcare and community service background is invaluable to The Center’s initiatives.

Amanda is always willing to step in when The Children’s Center needs her enthusiasm, guidance, and energy. Her passion for sharing our mission is helping raise awareness in our community. You may remember her as the emcee at the Pinwheel Walk or welcoming attendees at Healing Hearts.

We asked Amanda to share a little more about herself so we could all get to know her better.

Roles and Responsibilities

How did you first learn about The Children’s Center of Medina County, and what led you to partner with us?

I was introduced to The Children’s Center through philanthropy leaders at Cleveland Clinic. After thorough research of its mission and structure, I knew I wanted to be part of The Children’s Center’s work.  My family and I live in Medina and it is an honor to contribute to the success of our community through serving on the Board of Directors.

What is your current role on the Board? What do you do in that role?

This is my fourth year serving on the Board of Directors and I am at the beginning of my term as President. I represent The Children’s Center at community events, facilitate the Board of Directors Executive Committee, lead the Board in strategic decisions, and support The Children’s Center leadership and staff.

What are you most proud of in your work with The Children’s Center?

As a Board member, I am most proud of our collective work to ensure the mission of The Children’s Center carries on well beyond our years of service. We are a small part of an immense resource for children and families across Medina County. I am proud of The Children’s Center for the profound impact it makes on children who have experienced the most unspeakable and life-altering moment of their lives.  The Children’s Center staff are experts who ensure the trauma does not have to continue. The positive effects of their efforts may not be realized for some time and yet we know it represents an influential point to prevent further trauma and suffering.

Personal Insights and Reflections

What is the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

The best advice I was ever given was from a marathon training coach years ago. During a 15-mile practice run, I lost my footing and fell hard causing a gash in my knee.  On race day, we had friends and family write notes that we would pull from our pockets to give us inspiration in the most difficult parts of the 22.6-mile course. His note read “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us” from Ralph Waldo Emerson.  In the close of the note, he signed it with “Treasure every stride.” At that moment, it reminded me that even through struggle, there is good and there is learning. Treasure the moments that challenge you. Twenty years later, it serves as a beacon to point me to what is most important in my life and to live my values every day.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a marine biologist as a child. I romanticized the idea of living on a research vessel and scuba diving every day. A school field trip to the Chesapeake Bay had me convinced it was the greatest adventure and just a cool job!

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?

I reflect each day on three things that went well.  No matter how big or small, that pause is valuable time spent. I am intentional about focusing on family each evening which consists of catching up on everyone’s day and plans for whatever is coming up next in our lives. I enjoy word puzzles to help my brain disconnect and stand-up comedians for evening entertainment at home.

What is your favorite season?

Spring is my favorite season because it brings a refreshing sense of renewal and energy. As nature awakens, flowers bloom, trees regain their lush green leaves, and the air fills with warmth that feels invigorating. The longer days and vibrant colors add optimism that makes everyday activities feel a bit brighter and lighter. I love how spring symbolizes growth and new beginnings, inspiring a fresh perspective. It’s a perfect time for day trips or weekends outdoors, taking in the beauty of nature and finding balance.  And there’s a deep fulfillment in working the earth and nurturing life to flourish.

Community Engagement and Support

What is one thing you want to share with the community about The Children’s Center of Medina County?

The Children’s Center is likely the greatest example of all the goodness humanity has to offer. It is a pure heart, kindness, selflessness, service, and compassion like I have never encountered before. I continue to be humbled to witness the tireless efforts to lift up each child in a way that elevates their path.
