Embracing Safety:
Spotlight on Joan Pritchett

This month we are spotlighting Joan Pritchett! While serving on the Board of Directors, Joan has shared her expertise in Human Resources by reviewing The Children’s Center’s policies. She has volunteered her time sharing the Mission of The Children’s Center with the Medina County Community at the Community Pinwheel Walk and during the Car Shows at Quaker Steak & Lube. We are grateful to have her on our team!

We asked Joan to share a little more about herself so we could all get to know her better.

Roles and Responsibilities

How did you learn about The Children’s Center of Medina County? Why did you decide to join the Board of Directors?

I learned of The Children’s Center from then-current Board members Elizabeth Bux and Kimberly Marshall. After touring The Center and learning more about its role in the community and the number of cases of child abuse and neglect in our community, I realized that I could assist with raising awareness of the mission of The Children’s Center, as I had no idea that this valuable resource was available within Medina County.

What is your current volunteer role? What do you do in that role?

I am currently the Chair of the Policy Committee, which assists the Director with new policies and keeps the Employee Handbook current.

Personal Insights and Reflections

What are you most proud of in your work with The Children’s Center?

Working alongside a group of wonderful individuals, from the Board Members to the Staff and Volunteers, whose strengths and passion to ensure a safe haven is embraced by all.

What is the best advice you were ever given?

The best advice I ever received was to never procrastinate, no matter the task at hand – it will still be there tomorrow!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to either be an RN or a teacher.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

On weekends I love spending time with my grandchildren and making memories.

What season is your favorite?

My favorite season is fall and the changing colors of the leaves.

Community Engagement and Support

What does the community need to know about The Children’s Center?

The community needs to know that The Children’s Center is a resource to assist children during a traumatic moment in their life, giving them a place to start healing.   As a non-profit organization, there are many ways in which the community can contribute to its success; from monetary, to donations to volunteering.
