Protecting People and Livelihoods: Spotlight Chad Voller

This month, we’re spotlighting Chad Voller of TTx, who generously shares his cybersecurity expertise and time to help keep The Children’s Center’s technology running smoothly and securely.

From answering our questions and troubleshooting IT concerns to helping us put preventive measures in place, Chad is a trusted resource we can count on. Through TTx, our staff also receives cybersecurity training to help us recognize risks and protect the sensitive information entrusted to our care.

We’re incredibly grateful to Chad and TTx for helping us safeguard our technology so we can stay focused on supporting children and families in our community.

Roles and Responsibilities

How did you learn about The Children’s Center of Medina County? How did you first become involved with The Center?

Many years ago, my wife and I became familiar with The Children’s Center through the process of foster parenting, eventually adopting our son through all of that. More recently, a mutual business contact re-introduced me to the agency at an event, at which point we began discussing the IT and cybersecurity needs of the organization. My desire to give back to the community and to support the noble efforts of those protecting and serving children in need convinced me to support the team as best I could.

What is your current role? What do you do in that role?

IT and cybersecurity support as the Virtual CISO for the organization. In that role, I provide tech support and cybersecurity consulting in order to help the agency plan for and defend against cyberattacks. We all need help with technology and cybersecurity!

What are you most proud of in your work with The Children’s Center?

Pride in my work for The Children’s Center is less about the work itself than it is about the overall service and protection that I and my team strive to provide. Our sense is that we are providing meaningful work that protects people and livelihoods.

Personal Insights and Reflections

What is the best advice you were ever given?

“There is always a person on the other end of a transaction,” is some of the best advice I was given from an old friend. I’ve applied this sentiment in my working career as a means of retaining and relating to the personal dignity of all the people I’ve worked with over the years instead of just solving problems. We all have technology problems, because technology breaks! In the midst of breaking tech and cyber threat-actors, there is always a person on the other end of a transaction or interaction. Technology problems are people problems.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child, my thoughts were not overly concerned with what I wanted to be when I grew up. More often than not, I lived in the moment – in the dirt pile, on the football field, riding my bike, cutting the grass – rather than considering the future too much. In my late teen years, my mind was focused on becoming a pastor or a professor.

What season is your favorite?

Fall is my favorite season… marking both an end and a quietly colorful beginning into a season of chill, fire, and fashion – not to mention Ohio apple cider! There’s something about autumn, as a space between the hot and cold, holding onto summer with a smattering of warm days, but also giving us room to gather around the fire and don our flannels that have been waiting for us to return to that part of our closets. The colors! The smells! I definitely love the fall!

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

Yardwork, tending my chickens, home projects, or a campfire. I love to work with my hands and to take care of things… especially my chickens! My wife and I truly enjoy gardening and outdoor projects as part of the sacred rhythm of caring for our little slice of Earth. Caring for my chickens are a real-world extension of my heart to protect and guard.

Community Engagement and Support

What does the community need to know about The Children’s Center?

We’ve got a great group right here in Medina that cares deeply for the neediest among us, and they can use all the support they can get. So many of us have so much, and have been given every opportunity to succeed in life. I encourage everyone to thoughtfully consider how they might support The Children’s Center of Medina County with whatever resources they have at their disposal.
