This month we are shining the spotlight on Kimberly Marshall, a vital member of our Board of Directors since 2018. Kimberly’s efforts have forged crucial connections between The Children’s Center, government officials, and key figures in the Medina business sphere. Her passionate advocacy has played a pivotal role in encouraging both governmental representatives and businesses to champion the healing journey of children and families affected by abuse. Kimberly’s support for initiatives like the Pinwheel Garden Project and the Community Pinwheel Walk during Child Abuse Prevention Month has been invaluable. We are deeply grateful for her contributions to our team!
We asked Kimberly to share a little more about herself so that we could all get to know her a little better.
Roles and Responsibilities
How did you learn about The Children’s Center of Medina County? Why did you decide to join the Board of Directors?
I learned about The Children’s Center of Medina County through the Leadership Medina County Program. At that time, I was looking to get involved in a local nonprofit where I felt I could make a difference. I reached out to the Executive Director who connected me with their Nominating Committee.
What is your current role on the board? What do you do in that role?
Currently, I am serving as the Chair of the Nominating Committee. We are always looking for new talent with leadership skills to move the organization forward. As Chair of the Committee, I speak with others about their interest in serving on the board, accept resumes and applications, organize committee meetings and interviews of potential candidates. Additionally, I have assisted the Children’s Advocacy Centers statewide to help secure funding for the program.
What are you most proud of in your work with The Children’s Center?
I am most proud of helping to sustain and grow the organization both locally and statewide by talking with legislators in leadership roles to secure funding for the program.
Personal Insights and Reflections
What is the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
The best advice was from my dad who always said, “Daughter, this life is not a dress rehearsal for your next life.”
What is the best compliment you have ever received?
The best compliment I have ever received was from my late husband Charles, who always called me his Angel.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be either a fashion model or a park ranger.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
In the colder months, I unwind at the end of the day with a fire in the wood-burning fireplace and a cup of hot tea. On the weekends, I enjoy watching the many birds at my bird feeders and all the other little wildlife in the area and spending time with my beautiful, loving grandchildren.
What is your most used emoji?
I think my most used emoji is the American Flag and a Red Heart.
What season is your favorite?
My favorite season is early Fall.
Community Engagement and Support
What does the community need to know about The Children’s Center?
The Children’s Center is like an insurance policy. It’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. The staff does a wonderful job caring for the individuals and families that find themselves in a traumatic situation and helping them on their pathway to healing.
